My approach to delivering this course?

My approach to delivering this Train the Trainer course focuses on a highly interactive blend of essential theory and practical application. I believe that becoming a great trainer involves not only understanding key training principles but also practicing those skills in real-world scenarios. That’s why delegates will have the opportunity to deliver a prepared training session twice during the course. Each delivery will be followed by detailed feedback and group discussions, helping participants reflect on their performance, refine their approach, and build confidence.

Given the intensity of the content, I prioritize creating an informal and supportive learning environment. I want delegates to feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences, and learning from each other. With over 25 years of experience designing and delivering training at all organizational levels, and running at least 10 Train the Trainer sessions annually, my approach ensures that participants leave the course with practical, hands-on skills that they can immediately apply in their roles.

Course Outline

Day 1: Training Fundamentals, Theory, and First Practice

  • Morning Session (AM):
We’ll kick off with an introduction to the fundamentals of training, including the key differences between training, coaching, and mentoring. You’ll get to know essential adult learning theories and how to apply them in your sessions to engage different types of learners, such as visual, auditory, and kinaesthetic.
First Delegate Delivery: Early in the morning, you’ll deliver the first 3-4 minutes of a pre-prepared 10-minute training session. This will give you a chance to practice in front of the group and receive feedback, which you can use to reflect on throughout the rest of the course. This practical element will help you understand the upcoming theory in the context of your own training session.

  • Afternoon Session (PM):
In the afternoon, we’ll focus on training design and preparation. You’ll learn how to conduct a Training Needs Analysis (TNA) and design a session that meets your learners’ needs. We’ll dive into the Training Cycle, discussing how preparation leads to successful training delivery. You’ll also practice session planning, explore methods for managing nerves, and build techniques for establishing rapport with your learners. The day will end with discussions on creating a psychologically safe and engaging learning environment.

Day 2: Practical Delivery and Feedback

  • Morning Session (AM):
Day 2 begins with preparing for your final training delivery in the afternoon. We’ll explore advanced questioning techniques and methods to enhance engagement and participation. You’ll continue refining your training session, integrating feedback from Day 1 with the theory and techniques you’ve learned.

  • Afternoon Session (PM):
You’ll get the chance to deliver your full 10-minute training session, incorporating everything you’ve learned across the two days. After delivering, you’ll receive in-depth feedback from both peers and the course facilitator. We’ll also cover how to handle disruptions, manage group dynamics, and maintain control in challenging situations, ensuring you leave with the confidence and skills to lead impactful training sessions.
